Reign of Legends
The Reign of Legends is an RPG series by DJ Omnimaga written in hybrid TI-BASIC for the TI-83+/84+ series of calculators, with one of them being a computer game. They are notable for featuring 3 versus 3 battles and unique features per TI RPG standards. The games are in no way linked to each others, each occuring in different worlds or environments. The magic system is similar to Illusiat 8, 13 and Final Fantasy VIII, where magic spells are basically disposable items requiring no magic point (MP) to be used.

The Reign of Legends (March 2003)
ROL story was set in a then-future 2011, after a war between humans and human clones mass-produced by the emperor eliminated 99.5% of the world's population. You must stop the clone production and eliminate the emperor. During your quest, people join your party to help you and you have to engage plenty of enemies in 3 vs 3 battles in the ruins of an once-thriving world.
This game features multiple endings and a friendship system inspired from Star Ocean series. While very primitive, the friendship system, as well as whether you finish side quests or not, can result into an altered ending. Once you complete the game, you can restart a new game with your current stats, but you lose the content of your inventory. Also, enemies in this game have the particularity of being able to revive each others, which can add extra challenge in battles. The game features two world maps: The overworld and the underworld.
The original game was released in March 2003 and the English version in Early 2004. It makes use of ZFlash, a very buggy ASM utility allowing BASIC programmers to unarchive programs from inside programs. The clones-based storyline was in reference to a December 27th 2002 news report about people from the Raelian sect claiming that they had managed to successfully clone a baby girl.
The Reign of Legends 2 (June 2003)
In ROL2, the emperor Zida wants to harvest all magic orbs from the world and you must prevent him from doing so. You must enter his castle using a special orb, Neova. However, finding the orb will not be easy. You’ll have to explore, ask people for clues and fight incredibly powerful creatures to get to the orb. He must not get Neova! If this happens, something very bad may occur! This is the longest of the three Reign of Legends games, but also the hardest.
This game ditches the friendship and multiple endings system from the first game, but brings new features, such as the airship, the ability to change the character rows in battles (for example, if you want to put mages behind so that they take less damage) and 9 playable characters. You can switch party members while riding the airship and one dungeon even lets you use two parties of 3 characters simultaneously. The game features two worlds: Earth and Neanderlan (the Center of the Universe).
ROL2 was released in June 2003. The English version came out in November 2003, but the translation, released prior ROL1's, is very poor. In addition to ZFlash, this game utilises small ASM libraries by Michael Vincent to change the game contrast, screen position and text color for extra effects such as fog, darkness, earthquakes and lightning.
The Reign of Legends 3 (July 2004)
ROL3 is a time-traveling RPG that starts in a post-apocalyptic future set in 2235 A.D, where three warriors try in vain to take out three Yeti monsters. Then a mysterious mage, watching them die from away, travels back in time in 2200 A.D so that the three warriors manage to acquire the magic powers required to save the world. In their quests, they travel back and forth through pre-historic era, their own future set in 2200 A.D and a lifeless world of machine set years after the apocalypse, in the 27th century. The only thing, however, is: Can the future be changed?
This game returns to a three-character-only storyline, but retains other features introduced in ROL2, while adding two important ones. Like in Chrono Trigger, you can now travel in time between four time periods. Also, the game switches entirely from ASCII art graphics to real graphical sprites. However, due to the inneficiency of the ASM libraries available at the time of this game release, map loading and walking is extremely slow. As a result, the game is not recommended for the regular TI-83 Plus, except the France models from 2013. Despite the very slow gameplay and being the shortest of the three ROL games, this game made the headlines on ticalc.org and remained popular for a few years because of its amount of features and being ahead of its time per hybrid BASIC standards.
Unlike the two previous games, The Reign of Legends 3 was first released in English instead of French, in July 2004, although the French version was released shortly afterward. It switches to CODEX instead of ZFlash for more archiving reliability and uses Flash Gordon to reduce garbage collection resulting from heavy archiving of programs during gameplay. The switch to Flash Gordon also helped reducing in-game loading between battles. It also retains some of the ASM libraries used in the previous game.
The Reign of Legends 0 (June 2003)
The Reign of Legends 0 is a computer treasure hunting game where you visit an island to find a sword. To reach the treasure, you need to hit switches and find keys to go further. There is no battle in this game and it is the only game in the series to have been released for the computer instead of calculators.
The game was released for Windows 98 in June 2003 as a school project, but is only available in French. In 2012, an RPG Maker 2003 remake started being worked on, featuring updated graphics and smoother gameplay. This remake was going to be expanded further with a full RPG story and battles, but the project eventually died. The soundtrack is available at Bandcamp.

The Reign of Legends 3-II: Theola Shire
Set after the events of ROL3 in the 2235 A.D period, where a mysterious mage coming from the moon came to help you in the final battle, the warrior from the previous game that survived the final battle is invited to explore the moon with Theola, now that they can breath anywhere with the Omnigen item. However, when they explore a mysterious cavern there, they soon realize that the moon hides a very bad secret and that their fight isn't really over.
This game, started during Summer 2004, was gonna feature two playable characters in battles, with the empty slot being used by Espers or Summons. However, it never came close to get past the planning stages and was canceled shortly after the development of The Legend of Zelda: Dark Link Quest began.
The Reign of Legends 4ever
The world was reduced to four elemental portals located on what looks like a normal island at the end of time, each hiding a crystal representing one of the four elements. There are two warriors per portal. As Kalex, a warrior coming from the end of time, you must revive the 8 legendary warriors by getting each crystal, then continue the 4 separate quests (along with the main quest at the End of Time) with whichever warrior is located in the portal. Since warriors can't exit their respective elemental worlds, your main quest outside of the portals has to be done in solo.
The plan for this game was to pretty much have 4 games into one, so the result would have been massive. You would have been able to switch between all quests to reduce backtracking when you acquire essential items. However, the game was cancelled in late 2004 after the map engine, most of the menu and title screen were done.
It used Flash Gordon as well as CODEX for ASM enhancements. While the overworld and battle characters switched back to the old ASCII graphics from ROL1 and 2, battle monsters and menus were graphical. You also had the ability to customize the in-game menu borders like in Chrono Trigger.
The Reign of Legends 4
In June 2007, a new ROL4 project, this time using xLIB, was started. The story involved two fighters finding an unconscious warrior on a rocky plain before the ground collapsed under them. After exiting the cavern, the mysterious warrior reveals that the world is in danger and only him knows the way to stop the void from destroying it. Is the hero really who he is? What mysteries lie behind him? In any case, the kingdoms have to unite and the warriors must do something fast!
The story in this game was some sort of parallel with or reference to TI community events that were happening at the time, but in fantasy-adventure fashion. The 5 kingdoms were all named after the then-major TI calculator programming websites based on their respective website colors. This resulted in the following names: Unitia (United-TI, water), Maxitia (MaxCoderz, fire), Revitia (Revsoft, earth), Cemetia (Cemetech, wind), Omnitia (Omnimaga, darkness) and the final area, Titia (Ticalc.org, light/holy).
This game, featuring the same graphics as in ROL3, introduced a job system similar to Final Fantasy III for the Famicom and V for the Super Famicom. You acquired a set of jobs when speaking to each elemental crystal located near each kingdom and you could master them by equiping them and acquiring ability points (AP) during battles. It also introduced a special menu system that allowed the file size to go down considerably. However, it was cancelled only a month after coding had started, leaving only the in-game menu fully complete (including healing spells and job equiping), as well as some magic animations and battle intros.
